Hingham Middle School students took the stage to demonstrate their talent in this year’s Poetry Out Loud contest. ELA teachers in all three grades invited volunteers to select a poem that spoke to them, memorize it, and rehearse their delivery for the contest. Congratulations to our winners and to all who stepped up to the mic! 👏

Civics in Action! 🗳️💬 Last week, Hingham Middle School 8th grade social studies classrooms welcomed local leaders for “Community Expert Day” as part of their Student-Led Action Civics Project. Students met with community decision makers to ask questions and gather information about their selected civics issues, such as school start times, cell reception, and water quality. Through this work, students are learning how to be active, informed citizens by researching issues that matter to them, working to understand root causes, and developing and implementing action plans to address them.

This spring, 22 girls from Plymouth River Elementary completed their first Girls on the Run program. Through lessons that incorporate running, the program empowers girls to build life skills, confidence, connection, character, and a sense of contribution. 💪 The season culminated in a joyful 5K at Boston Common and a community impact project supporting the Teen Girls Home in Hingham. Girls on the Run is a program designed to help girls develop social, emotional, and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits and a positive self-image. We’ve seen incredible growth in the girls since the program began, making it a huge success at PRS. A highlight of the day was when the girls connected with WCVB’s Danae Bucci who loved their energy. Plans for a future studio visit are in the works. Big shoutout to our amazing coaches Nancy Bucey, Janette Harrington, Grace LeBlanc, Kathleen McDevitt and Amanda Egan! 👏

As Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month comes to a close, we’re excited to spotlight Hingham Middle School’s fantastic after school workshop series that took place this past month as part of One Book, One School. The activities focused on celebrating the arts and culture of Asians and Pacific Islanders in America. Students had the opportunity to explore hands-on traditions like Chinese ink blowing, calligraphy, Japanese flower arranging (Ikebana), and origami. Many of the workshops were led by HMS students of AAPI descent who generously shared their personal traditions and stories with the school community.

This month, HHS seniors got a head start on adulting at the Credit for Life Fair, a hands-on personal finance simulation that lets students step into their financial future before graduation. They built budgets based on future careers and tackled real-world expenses like housing, transportation, food, and student loans, gaining practical skills they’ll need in the months and years ahead.

Last week, our 5th graders spent the day at Hingham Middle School for Move Up Day! They explored their future school, met some of their teachers, and heard from Principal Derek Smith about what a typical day is like at HMS. He shared what to expect in 6th grade and all the exciting after school clubs students can join. They also took part in a scavenger hunt, discovering important spots like the guidance office and the nurse's office while starting to feel more at home in their new school. We loved having you, Class of 2032. We cannot wait to see you at HMS this fall!

Our Integrated Pre-K students explored plant parts through hands-on learning! 🌱 They used scissors and tweezers to dissect flowers, identified seeds, and planted their own to discover how plants grow. 🌸 This lesson is part of our “What Grows in Your Garden” unit, helping them connect with the world around them and understand the importance of caring for nature.

Foster’s new 3-floor mural is absolutely breathtaking! "The Foster School Mural: A World Within A World" by Joshua Winer, Artist, was installed over April break and represents the marsh ecosystem right next door to Foster. It beautifully honors the environment we’re part of, giving students and staff a chance to connect with the world around them.
